When an incident causes the elevator to temporarily stop working, occupants inside the cabin will not face any danger or injury, except due to panic or an inexperienced person attempting to get them out of the elevator.
1. Elevators with an emergency landing device (MELD) or backup power source:
If the elevator is equipped with an emergency landing device (MELD) or a backup power source, the elevator will continue moving to the nearest floor and open its doors to let the passengers inside out.
Elevator rescue device is responsible for providing backup power in the following manner:
- Supplying 3-phase power to the elevator system during power outages using energy stored in the battery.
- In the event of a power outage, the rescue device will automatically supply backup power to bring the elevator to the nearest floor/desired floor, or run the elevator multiple times, and open the door for passengers to exit. This automatic rescue device (backup power source) will automatically charge the battery when power is restored.
2. In case the elevator does not have an emergency landing device (MELD) or backup power source:
The elevator operator will rescue passengers from the elevator car by turning the hand crank to move the elevator to the nearest floor. Only responsible personnel who have been trained and are proficient in performing the rescue may do so. The steps for carrying out the rescue operation are as follows:

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX |
1. Turn off the elevator's main power circuit breaker. Use the key to open the landing door nearest to the elevator's position.
2. If the elevator car is right at this floor level, open the car door to bring passengers out. If the elevator car is stopped between two floors, the rescue staff must close the floor door and then go to the machine room to perform the following steps: 2.1. Release the brake shoe and slowly release the brake, use the hand crank to turn the traction machine to bring the car to the nearest floor. Before turning to move the car, people inside the car must be notified to avoid panic caused by the elevator suddenly operating. The brake must be released slowly and carefully while turning to avoid the elevator slipping. 2. 2. When the elevator car is level with the landing door sill (controlled by the person operating the winch according to the mark on the cable relative to the machine beam), the braking system must be re-checked and returned to its original position, then use the key to open the landing door to bring passengers out. 2.3. After completing the rescue operation, the rescue staff must inspect and close the landing doors – car doors, adjust the switches in the control box back to the ready-to-operate position, and close the main circuit breaker. |
