Why is a frequency converter needed?
When a ship docks at port, the onboard voltage differs from Vietnam's 380V/50Hz grid (for example: ship power of 440V/60Hz, 690V/60Hz, 200V/60Hz...). If the ship's diesel generator keeps running, fuel costs are very high and it emits CO2 and other harmful gases that affect the environment. Our solution is to use a frequency converter to convert the 380V/50Hz grid power to 60Hz or 400Hz power supplying the ship's essential electrical equipment such as lighting, air conditioning, and communication systems....The ship's diesel generator can then be shut down to save fuel. Electricity costs are saved and toxic gases are not released into the environment.
What is a frequency converter?
- The frequency converter can be single-phase or 3-phase, with the function of converting frequency from 50Hz to 60Hz, or 60Hz to 50Hz, or from 50/60Hz to 400Hz for certain special requirements.
- The frequency converter can also convert voltage, but its main purpose and function remain frequency conversion.
- Frequency converter is completely different from an inverter, The frequency converter is used to convert power from one electrical standard to another (for example, 50Hz to 60Hz, 50Hz to 400Hz) Japan Machines Vietnam electricity standard Japan electricity Standard 380VAC/50Hz 200VAC/60Hz.
Frequency converter for shipbuilding/marine vessels:
- Supplying power to ships when docked using grid power (since some ships use a 60Hz frequency).
- Testing electrical equipment on ships during shipbuilding for countries using 60Hz such as Japan/USA before handover to the investor.
