- Although the product power inverter has been on the market for decades, but batteries specifically designed for power inverter has not kept pace. Currently, users still use starting batteries (specifically designed to start internal combustion engines). Compared to starting batteries, batteries specifically designed for energy storage (also known as telecom battery because they are widely used in the telecommunications industry) have the following advantages:

 

1. 3 times longer service life: starting batteries used in backup power applications have a service life of about 2-3 years. Telecom batteries have a designed service life of 12 years. The actual service life achieved can be 8-10 years.

 

2. Discharge time: A characteristic feature of starting batteries is their ability to deliver high discharge current, allowing up to 400% of battery capacity, but they do not allow deep discharge. Normally, when used for power inverters, only 60% of the battery capacity can be discharged before the voltage drops below 10V. Inverters with low-voltage protection will cut off and stop operating further. Inverters without low-voltage protection, if discharged further, will lead to battery degradation, with the number of charge/discharge cycles reduced to even just a few. Telecom batteries, being a type specialized for energy storage applications, can achieve a discharge capability of nearly 100% of capacity. This allows a usage time 1.6 times longer than a starting battery of the same capacity.
